CBSE inspects 29 schools, including 2 in Gujarat; to take legal action against dummy schools

Ahmedabad: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently conducted surprise inspections at 29 schools across six regions to assess compliance with its regulations. On Thursday, CBSE teams visited two schools in Ahmedabad, Nirman High School in Vastrapur and The New Tulip International School in Bopal. Both schools were found to be among the ‘majority’ that violated the board’s affiliation by-laws.

As per the official release of the board, “The primary objective of these inspections was to evaluate compliance with CBSE’s norms and Affiliation Bye-Laws. The inspection teams focused on verifying student enrollment records, infrastructure facilities, and the overall functioning of the schools.”

“Majority of the inspected schools were found to have violated the Board’s Affiliation Bye-Laws by enrolling students beyond their actual attendance records, effectively creating “non-attending” enrolments. Additionally, schools were found to be flouting infrastructural norms of the Board.”

“CBSE has taken these violations seriously and is in the process of issuing show-cause notices to the schools found in breach of regulations. The Board is also considering legal action against the defaulting institutions.,” the statement added. While the official statement did not use the term “dummy students,” reports suggest that these institutions may have been engaging in such practices.

The inspections took place on December 18 in Delhi and on December 19 in Bengaluru (Karnataka), Patna (Bihar), Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Ahmedabad (Gujarat). In Delhi, 18 schools were inspected, followed by three in Varanasi. Inspections were also carried out at two schools each in Bengaluru, Patna, Ahmedabad, and Bilaspur. A total of 29 teams, comprising a CBSE officer and a principal from an affiliated school, conducted these inspections in a synchronized manner within a limited time frame to ensure the element of surprise and the accuracy of findings.
