Gandhinagar: 92% of the Tapi-Karjan Lift Project, being constructed at a cost of ₹651 crore to provide irrigation facilities to farmers in Surat and Narmada districts, has been completed and will be inaugurated soon, said Minister of State for Water Resources Mukeshbhai Patel.

Responding to a question in the Legislative Assembly today, Patel added that the then Chief Minister and current Prime Minister, Narendrabhai Modi, implemented various irrigation schemes using advanced technology to minimize water wastage and maximize irrigation facilities for farmers. The Tapi-Karjan Lift Project is India’s first historic irrigation initiative, designed to lift water up to a height of 212 meters and supply it to farmers’ fields. Through this project, 53,748 acres of land in 73 villages across Surat and Umarpada will benefit from irrigation. This includes 35,946 acres in 51 villages of Umarpada taluka in Surat district and 17,802 acres in 22 villages of Dediapada taluka in Narmada district.

He further stated that the project will supply water to 99 existing check dams and four newly constructed ones, totaling 103 check dams. DeshGujarat
