Six-laning of Rajkot – Ahmedabad highway: Work over for 193 of 201.33 km

Gandhinagar: Providing details about the Ahmedabad-Rajkot National Highway in the Assembly today, Minister of State for Cooperation Jagdishbhai Vishwakarma stated that the state government will spend a total of ₹3,350 crore to expand the Ahmedabad-Rajkot National Highway into a six-lane road. Out of the total length of 201.33 km, work on 197 km is being carried out in the first phase, of which 193 km—98 percent of the work—has been physically completed.

The Minister mentioned that after the six-laning of the Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway, the total travel time for citizens is expected to be reduced to 2 hours and 32 minutes, saving approximately 30 to 45 minutes. This is also anticipated to result in a 10 to 15 percent reduction in vehicle fuel consumption.

Providing further details about the project, the Minister stated that a total of 38 flyover-underpass structures have been included in the highway expansion, of which 34 have been completed, while work on the remaining four is in progress.

With the six-laning of this national highway, the number of accidents at black spots—locations with frequent mishaps—has decreased by approximately 41 percent over the last three years compared to 2019. There were initially 34 black spots on this road, out of which 31 have been addressed, and the remaining three will be resolved soon, the Minister added.  DeshGujarat
