Paan shop owner in Surat attacked with acid after denying cigarette on credit

Surat: Kapodra police have arrested an individual for allegedly throwing acid on a paan shop owner after he refused to lend cigarettes to the accused.

According to details from Kapodra police, Rampyare Ramsnehi Kushwaha, a resident of Anand Apartment in Satyanarayan Nagar, Mughkindra, Kapodra, runs a stall named Pandit Paan Center near Satyanarayan Nagar Society. On Monday night, around 8 pm, while he was at his shop, the accused, Rakesh Babu Baraiya, arrived and asked for cigarettes on credit. When Rampyare refused, Rakesh initially left but returned shortly after with a bottle of acid. Before the shopkeeper could react, Rakesh threw acid on him, causing severe burns to his face and head before fleeing the scene.

Following the victim’s complaint, Kapodra police registered a case and arrested Rakesh Babubhai Baraiya (resident of Satyanarayan Society, Kapodra, near Murgha Kendra) within a few hours. The police further revealed that multiple cases, including those under the Prohibition Act, have already been registered against Rakesh in Mahidharpura, Sarthana, Pune, Kapodra, and Valsad.
