Heatwave grips Gujarat as Bhuj records 44.5°C; mercury crosses 40°C in several cities

Ahmedabad: The heat continues to intensify across Gujarat, with Bhuj emerging as the hottest spot on Friday, recording a scorching 44.5°C, which is 7°C above normal. Several other cities including Ahmedabad (41.3°C), Amreli (41.1°C), Gandhinagar (41°C), and Rajkot (42.9°C) also reported maximum temperatures above 40°C, significantly higher than their seasonal averages. According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest bulletin, Deesa touched 42.1°C, 4°C above normal, while Naliya recorded 40.4°C, 5°C above average. Ahmedabad remained particularly hot, with relative humidity dropping to 13% by 5:30 PM, adding to the discomfort.
The IMD has issued a heatwave alert for several districts in the state, in effect till April 9. Authorities have urged citizens to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and take necessary precautions, especially for the elderly and children. DeshGujarat
