AMC Heat Action Plan: 600 water kiosks set up, 70 traffic signals closed in afternoon
April 09, 2025
Ahmedabad: With the mercury going up day by day in the city, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has implemented its heat action plan to provide relief to citizens. Under this plan, more than 600 water kiosks (parbos) have been set up across the city in collaboration with NGOs and builders. In coordination with the traffic police, around 70 traffic junctions have been closed during afternoon hours. Additionally, the timings of municipal schools have been adjusted to include water breaks every one and a half hours.
Special arrangements for heat-related patients have also been made at Shardaben, LG, SVP, and VS Hospitals, as well as CHCs.
Over 100 representatives from various organizations attended a meeting on the heat action plan, chaired by Mayor Pratibha Jain. The mayor appealed to builders to schedule construction work during early morning and evening hours. She also instructed officials to cooperate with NGOs willing to support the public through water kiosks or other initiatives. Each ward is expected to start around 25 water stations with the help of NGOs and builders. ORS packets will be provided free of cost to social institutions through UHC. Drinking water facilities have also been arranged at BRTS and AMTS depots. DeshGujarat
