Sadhli-Segva Road in Vadodara to be built using plastic waste

Vadodara: The foundation stone for the Sadhli-Segva road, to be constructed at a cost of ₹10.19 crore in Shinor taluka of Vadodara district, will soon be laid. Notably, the road will be built using environmentally harmful plastic waste, making it a sustainable infrastructure initiative.

This road is a key connector between Karjan and Shinor talukas, linking Sadhli and Segwa villages, and also serving several other villages including Avakhal, Mindhol, Manjrol, and Tersa. In the past, areas near Avakhal village and nearby factories faced waterlogging during the monsoon. However, this issue has now also been resolved, according to Nainesh Nayakawala, Executive Engineer of the Roads and Buildings Department.

Under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan’, plastic waste will be utilized in the construction of this road. Since 2013, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has encouraged the use of waste plastic in hot bituminous mixes (dry process) for road surfaces. Based on various lab studies in India and abroad, the ministry promotes the use of plastic waste—such as bags, milk pouches, cosmetic packaging, household waste, and detergent containers—in road construction.
