Sanghavi inspects Ahmedabad Rath Yatra route; takes part in Netrotsav ceremony
June 25, 2025
Ahmedabad: All necessary arrangements, including extensive security measures, have been made for the 148th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Ahmedabad. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Harsh Sanghavi, today participated in the Netrotsav ceremony of Lord Jagannath, performed Aarti, and hoisted the ceremonial flag.
Sanghavi also conducted an inspection of the entire Rath Yatra route. He reviewed the security arrangements along with top officials, including State Police Chief Vikas Sahay and Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner G.S. Malik.
Talking to reporters during the route inspection of the Rath Yatra, the MoS said that the Rath Yatra of Jagannathji in Ahmedabad is the biggest pilgrimage in terms of both faith and discipline. For the first time in the country, AI technology will be used for crowd management during the Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad. Drones and AI systems will monitor the crowd to ensure that no untoward incidents, such as a stampede, occur. He added that modern technology is being used to ensure smooth darshan for devotees without any inconvenience.
Highlighting the security arrangements, the Minister stated that 3D mapping of the entire Rath Yatra route has been carried out, and police deployment has been planned based on this mapping. The event will be monitored by 3,500 CCTV cameras, 2,872 body-worn cameras, 240 terrace points, 25 watchtowers, and 23,844 police personnel.
Sanghavi also mentioned that a total of 213 Rath Yatras are being held across the state, including Ahmedabad, and Gujarat Police has made comprehensive security arrangements in coordination with religious organizations for all of them.
He emphasized that the Ahmedabad Rath Yatra is a symbol of social harmony. The city police have promoted social policing to strengthen community bonds, including organizing games like cricket tournaments. Women police officers have conducted meetings with women to ensure their active cooperation in maintaining peace.
Regarding safety concerns, the Minister informed that a survey identified 484 dilapidated houses along the route. All of them have been sealed, and tarpaulins have been used to block access with the support of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
To assist families during emergencies, especially if children get lost, 17 Jan Sahay Kendras will be set up along the route. Last year, over 65 children were safely reunited with their families through these centres.
On the occasion, the MoS also praised the dedicated efforts of the Ahmedabad City Police in ensuring a safe and well-organized Rath Yatra. DeshGujarat
