August 15, 2025
Ahmedabad – Vrajendra Prasad, son of Gadipati Kaushalendra Prasad Maharaj of the Kalupur Swaminarayan Temple and the designated future Acharya, has lodged a police complaint against his wife and her family, accusing them of extortion, threats, and a plot to siphon off ₹100 crore. The FIR has been registered at Ghatlodia Police Station.
Police Inspector L.L. Chavda, in-charge of Ghatlodia Police Station, confirmed the complaint and said, “We have received the FIR and are investigating the matter.”
Marriage and Honeymoon Incident in Bali
According to the FIR, Vrajendra Prasad, a resident of Memnagar, first met a man named Shashikant Tiwari from Paldi at the Naranpura Swaminarayan Museum in 2023. Through this connection, a marriage proposal was arranged with Avantika from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. After a brief engagement in April 2024, the couple married in July 2024 in Prayagraj, while the reception ceremony took place in Ahmedabad which was attended by many well-known dignities.
During their honeymoon in Bali, Indonesia, Vrajendra Prasad alleges that he fell seriously ill after consuming food in the hotel. The next day, he claims to have found a packet of white powder in his wife’s bag. When questioned, she said it was Ayurvedic medicine. Later, he allegedly saw her mixing white powder into his food again. This time, he secretly disposed of the meal without consuming it.
Alleged Monetary Demands
After returning to Ahmedabad, Vrajendra Prasad claims his wife repeatedly demanded money, citing various reasons. On one occasion, she allegedly sought ₹3 lakh for her brother’s education, which he borrowed from a friend. Over time, he says, she extracted a total of ₹11 lakh on different pretexts.
Shocking Social Media Chats
Later, while checking his wife’s old phone, Vrajendra Prasad alleges he discovered Instagram and WhatsApp chats in which she discussed a plan with a friend to harm his family and run away with ₹100 crore. He took screenshots and confronted her family in Prayagraj. They allegedly dismissed the chats as fabricated and insisted on taking their daughter back, reportedly calling his family “wolves” and refusing to let her stay in their home.
Threats and ₹100 Crore Demand
According to the complaint, subsequent meetings between the families failed to resolve matters. Vrajendra Prasad alleges that during one meeting at the Naranpura Swaminarayan Museum, his in-laws threatened to kill his family and demanded ₹100 crore.
Following these events, Vrajendra Prasad filed an FIR against six individuals, including his wife and in-laws, under charges of extortion, criminal intimidation, and conspiracy.
Police said investigations are underway and further action will be taken based on evidence gathered.
