IMD issues Red Alert for extremely heavy rains in these districts of Gujarat for next 48 hrs

Ahmedabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for some districts of Gujarat for the next 48 hours due to extremely heavy rainfall forecast in the region. The alert mainly covers coastal areas of South Gujarat and Saurashtra, with other parts of the state also expected to receive heavy rain.

Red Alert: Very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Junagadh, Amreli, Gir Somnath, and Diu.

Orange Alert: Heavy to very heavy rain likely in Surat, Dang, Tapi, Rajkot, Porbandar, Bhavnagar and Dwarka (Saurashtra-Kutch).

Yellow Warning: Heavy rains likely at isolated places in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and other districts.

Red Alert: Intense rainfall expected in Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, and in Amreli, Bhavnagar.

Orange Alert: Heavy rains forecast in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, and Diu.

August 21–24:

Persistent heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places continues in Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Surendranagar, Morbi, Kutch, and several districts across Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch.

Heavy rain expected at isolated locations in cities including Ahmedabad, Navsari, Valsad, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka, Diu, and others.
Synoptic Situation
A well-marked low-pressure area over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coasts is persisting and is expected to intensify into a depression by the morning of August 19, moving west-northwestwards.
Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea adjoining Gujarat continues, while a shear zone along latitude 19°N remains active. The monsoon trough extending from Naliya through central Bay of Bengal regions indicates sustained monsoonal activity over the state.
Residents in the affected districts are advised to take precautions and stay updated with official weather warnings due to the risk of flooding, waterlogging, and disruption. The IMD will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as the situation develops. DeshGujarat
