Powergrid Dispute Resolved: Farmers in Surat to Get nearly 5 Times Higher Compensation
August 31, 2025
Surat: Farmers from five talukas of Surat district had been protesting for the past one and a half years against Powergrid Corporation’s proposed power transmission line, demanding higher compensation for the acquisition of their farmland.
As per an order issued by the district collector, farmers will now receive compensation at four times the Jantri rates for their acquired land. The Jantri rates were last revised in 2011. In villages where the Jantri rate is very low (₹100 or less), the collector has considered the highest Jantri rates from nearby villages. This will result in farmers receiving four to five times higher compensation.
The issue covered more than 250 survey numbers belonging to farmers from Hathuran, Mahuvej, Kosamba, Kathwada, Hathoda, Velachha, Panetha, Shethi, Varethi, Tadkeshwar, Rosvad, Virpor, Ghala, Jiyor, Dhatva, Netrang, Dharutha, Jat-Bharthana, Asta, Segva, Mota, Umrakh, Gangpor, Jetpur, Barasadi, Soyani, Dhamdod, Bhutpor, Kanav, Dhaluda, among others.
The matter was amicably resolved following the intervention of local BJP leaders Ganpatbhai Vasava, Kunvarjibhai Halpati, Bhaviniben Patel, Ishwarbhai Parmar, Mohanbhai Dhodiya, Sandip Desai and others. DeshGujarat
