Cooperatives Model Bharat Taxi’s Launch in Gujarat and Delhi Likely By End of 2025
September 06, 2025
After the Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced the launch of Sahakar Taxi earlier this year, the wait for its rollout is nearly over. The app-based cab service, branded as ‘Bharat Taxi’, will have a soft launch in November, followed by a large-scale rollout in Delhi and Gujarat from December.
Designed as a cooperative model, Bharat Taxi aims to provide an affordable and reliable option for passengers while ensuring higher earnings for drivers. The service will function like Ola and Uber but promises to be cheaper, without surge pricing, and with lower commission deductions.
Officials said prepaid booths will also be set up at airports, metro stations, railway stations, and bus stands, allowing commuters to book rides without relying solely on the app. Drivers can settle payments through these booths as well.
So far, 614 drivers from four states have registered under the Sahakar Cooperative Limited Society. The initiative is also being studied by IIM Bangalore to enhance its scalability and benefits for both passengers and drivers.
By eliminating surge pricing and reducing commission cuts, Bharat Taxi is positioning itself as a fair-trade mobility solution that benefits both commuters and cab operators.
