AMC issues eviction notices to Naroda society occupants over lack of BU permission

Ahmedabad: Homeowners in Swaminarayan Park Society, New Naroda, are facing major trouble as the city civic body has begun issuing notices to residents and shopkeepers for using their premises without obtaining the mandatory Building Use (BU) permission.

According to the notices, while the construction of the buildings was completed long ago, BU permission was never secured within the required timeframe. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has warned that if the issue is not resolved promptly, the occupants will be required to vacate the premises, and the cost of eviction will be recovered from them.

The issue dates back nearly 14 years, during which the builder, Dharmdev Infra, reportedly failed to pay the estimated BU fee of ₹5 crore. As a result, property owners are now facing possible eviction.

It is learnt that around 200 shopkeepers and 1,600 homeowners are affected. The corporation has already issued notices to shop owners, while notices for residential units are expected to follow. Distressed residents have blamed the builder for failing to obtain the necessary BU permission, leaving them in a legal and financial dilemma.

Residents have also questioned how the AMC allowed the sale and allotment of houses without the required BU approval. They have urged the authorities to intervene and hold the builder accountable instead of penalizing homeowners who purchased the properties in good faith. DeshGujarat
