SMC to extend city bus service to Hoziwala Industrial Estate; benefiting one lakh
November 13, 2025
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced the extension of the city bus service to Hoziwala Industrial Estate in Sachin, providing direct connectivity for around one lakh artisans.
This comes after the representatives of Hoziwala Industrial Estate made a representation to MLA Sandip Desai, who then submitted a proposal to the SMC officer bearers. After this, the officials, corporators, and office bearers of SMC coordinated route inspections and reviews, and the new route for the Citylink bus service was approved in a short span of time.
With this approval, the new city bus service will officially commence on Friday, 14 November 2025, at 10:00 AM. The inauguration ceremony will take place at Road No. 10, Hoziwala Mandali Office, in the presence of MLA Sandip Desai and Somnath Marathe, Chairman of the Public Transport Committee of SMC.
Currently, the city bus service runs from Surat Railway Station and Udhna Darwaja to Sachin GIDC. With this extension, the service now reaches Hoziwala Industrial Estate, directly benefiting approximately one lakh artisans working in 1,250 large factories and 1,300 industrial units. These workers are engaged in textile weaving, spinning, processing mills, embroidery, footwear, engineering, and high-speed loom operations.
Previously, artisans commuting to Hoziwala Industrial Estate had to take buses up to Sachin GIDC and then hire shuttle auto-rickshaws, which increased travel costs and inconvenience. The extension of the city bus route will now provide affordable and direct transport, easing daily commutes for thousands of workers from Hoziwala Estate and nearby villages, including those traveling to Bakra Mandi.
