Teen diamond scion from Surat to renounce luxurious life, take Diksha on Nov 23

Surat: Jash Mehta, the 18-year-old son of a prominent diamond industrialist in Surat, is set to renounce worldly life and become a Jain monk on November 23. The teenager is leaving behind a life of luxury to take initiation (Diksha) under the guidance of Yashovijay Sureshwarji Maharaj.

A Life of Luxury Abandoned

Jash, who scored 70% in his 10th-grade board exams, has been accustomed to a life of comfort and indulgence. He has a passion for cricket and a well-known fondness for original diamond jewelry, luxury watches, and high-end cars. Jash himself stated that he had led a very luxurious life, with a deep interest in watches, jewelry, and even spectacles.

Now, he is leaving all these material possessions behind to pursue Diksha. His mother said that whatever path Jash chooses, the family will support him. “We are proud that he has decided to take Diksha. Jash loved food, travel, and virtually everything, including watches, spectacles, and jewelry, but he has chosen to leave it all behind,” she added.

The Path to Renunciation

Jash’s spiritual inclination began about five years ago, influenced by his uncle’s own Diksha. His uncle, who had previously led a life of luxury and was not initially religiously inclined, underwent a complete transformation after reading a small book. This change had a profound effect on Jash.

Realizing that material possessions cannot accompany one after death, and guided by the companionship of his Guru (Gurudev), Jash gradually developed a detachment from worldly pursuits, preparing him for his life of renunciation. DeshGujarat
