AMC moves to reclaim plot of Seventh Day Adventist School in Khokhra

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated proceedings to reclaim the plot on which the Seventh Day Adventist School has been operating in the Khokhra area. This move follows repeated notices to the school over alleged violations of the lease agreement, which went unheeded.

Pritesh Mehta, chairman of the Town Planning Committee, said that despite receiving three notices, the school failed to submit the required documents. The civic body will now serve a Competent Officers Proceedings (C.O.P.) notice to the school management within a week.

The decision to reclaim the plot was taken during the Town Planning Committee meeting held on 25th November. Following the C.O.P. proceedings, legal action will be initiated, and a hearing will also be conducted.

The school came under scrutiny after a Class 10 student was fatally stabbed by another student, prompting multiple investigations into the institution’s operations. AMC’s probe revealed that the 10,465 sq m plot in Khokhra was originally supposed to be leased to a trust to run the Seventh Day Adventist School but was allegedly transferred to a company instead, violating AMC rules.

The investigation also found that the original lease permitted construction only after plan approval. However, unauthorized construction was carried out later, which was regularized only after the school paid an impact fee.

Despite repeated reminders, the school administration failed to submit the necessary documents. The corporation had set a final deadline of 21st November, which passed without any satisfactory response from the school authorities.

In light of continued non-compliance, the AMC has adopted a strict stance and is moving forward to reclaim the plot. DeshGujarat
