Gujarat Govt Urges Farmers to Ignore Rumours, Buy Only Needed Fertilizer

Gandhinagar: Amid reports of long queues outside fertilizer shops in several parts of Gujarat, the state government on Saturday issued a clarification assuring farmers that adequate stocks are available for the ongoing Rabi season and urging them not to panic-buy.

In an official press release, the government said it has put in place a robust distribution plan to ensure timely and sufficient supply of fertilizers across all districts. It noted that the Government of India has already allocated ample quantities of fertilizer for the October 2025–March 2026 Rabi period.

According to the Agriculture Directorate, farmers have been advised to purchase fertilizers strictly as per their requirement and avoid unnecessary stocking. “Sufficient quantity of fertilizer is available in the state, and farmers need not worry,” the department stated.

As part of the central allocation, Gujarat has received approval for 13.90 lakh metric tons of urea and 2.90 lakh metric tons of DAP for the season. Of this, more than 5.48 lakh metric tons of urea and 2.18 lakh metric tons of DAP have already reached the state.

So far, farmers in Gujarat have consumed over 3.44 lakh metric tons of urea and 1.68 lakh metric tons of DAP this season. At present, district warehouses collectively hold more than 2.08 lakh metric tons of urea and around 49,000 metric tons of DAP available for distribution.

To further strengthen supplies, around 12,500 metric tons of urea have been moved to various districts through railway rakes over the last three days. Urea is currently being dispatched from seven rake points, and an additional 22,000 metric tons is scheduled for supply in the coming week.

The government emphasized that fertilizer stocks are sufficient and district-wise distribution is progressing as per demand. It urged farmers to ignore rumours and purchase fertilizer only as needed. DeshGujarat
