Torrent Power signs 10-year LNG supply deal with Japan’s JERA
December 09, 2025
Ahmedabad: Torrent Power Ltd (TPL) on Monday announced that it has signed a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with JERA Co., Inc., Japan’s largest power generation company and a global leader across the LNG value chain. Under the agreement, JERA will supply up to 0.27 MMTPA of LNG to Torrent Power for a period of 10 years starting from 2027.
According to the press release, the LNG procured under this agreement will be strategically utilized by TPL to operate its 2,730 MW Combined Cycle Gas-Based Power Plants (GBPPs) in India. The supply will help meet rising electricity demand, support peak demand periods, and balance renewable energy generation.
The LNG will also cater to the growing requirements of Torrent Group’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) arm, Torrent Gas Ltd. (TGL), ensuring a reliable supply of gas for households, commercial and industrial consumers, as well as CNG vehicles.
This agreement marks a significant strategic step for Torrent, reinforcing its commitment to clean energy, securing competitively priced LNG for long-term power generation and gas distribution, and supporting the Government of India’s target of increasing natural gas’s share in the energy mix to ~15% by 2030. It also contributes to strengthening India’s energy security.
Taking advantage of softness in LNG prices, TPL and TGL plan to explore additional medium- and long-term LNG procurement to meet the growing demand from their GBPPs and CGD networks, enhancing portfolio diversity and ensuring reliable energy supply for their customers, the press release further stated.
