AMC demolishes decades-old Snehanjali Society in Thaltej
December 24, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) today launched the demolition operation of 25 houses in the decades-old Snehanjali Society in the Thaltej area, following a long-pending dispute between residents and the original landowner. The action was carried out by the Estate Department of the North West Zone in compliance with court directives to vacate the premises and hand over possession of the plot.
The civic body had earlier held discussions with the residents and granted time until December 23 to vacate their houses. A relocation decision was also reached, under which alternative housing was allotted to the 25 affected families in flats under a Gujarat Housing Board (GHB) scheme in Naranpura.
Demolition work began this morning using two Hitachi machines, two JCBs, and contractor labourers. To minimise dust and air pollution during the operation, mist-spray systems were deployed at the site.
With the demolition of all 25 units now completed, AMC officials confirmed that possession of the land will be formally handed over to the original owner as per court orders. DeshGujarat
