Delhi–Mumbai Expressway: Latest progress update on Virar–Talasari section in Maharashtra
January 21, 2026
Mumbai: Construction work on the Maharashtra stretch of the Vadodara–Virar section of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway shows significant progress, with two of the three packages now virtually complete.
In Maharashtra, the expressway stretches from the Virar Interchange to Talasari and is divided into three packages—Package 11, Package 12 and Package 13. Package 11, which runs from the Dahanu Interchange to Talasari, has been 100 per cent complete for some time. The remaining work is largely concentrated in Packages 12 and 13, where only minor stretches and finishing activities are pending.
As per reports, Package 12, being constructed by Montecarlo, is around 91 per cent complete, while Package 13, being executed by GR Infraprojects, has achieved nearly 89 per cent progress.
According to ground reports from Infra Live, work under Package 13—from the Virar Interchange to near Palghar—is progressing steadily. While one side of the Virar Interchange is complete, earthwork continues on the remaining side. Construction of the second bridge over the Vaitarna River is underway, with piling completed across most of the river stretch and girder erection in progress on the land side. At the current pace, the bridge is likely to be completed in the next five to six months. Beyond the river, deck slab work has started on several spans, with only one span pending for girder erection.
In most sections, earthwork, GSB (Granular Sub-Base) and DLC (Dry Lean Concrete) layers are complete. Lane marking, crash barriers and signboards are already in place up to the third Vaitarna bridge. The Palghar Interchange is fully constructed, including entry–exit roads and the toll structure.
Moving towards Gujarat, Package 12—from Palghar to the Dahanu Interchange—is also largely complete. PQC (Pavement Quality Concrete) laying has been finished, while crash barriers, signboards, median plantation and wildlife overpasses are in place. Only limited lane-marking work remains in short stretches of one to two kilometres. The expressway section crossing Boisar Road near Nagzari is also fully complete.
Overall, barring finishing work at the Virar Interchange and the second Vaitarna River bridge, the Maharashtra portion of the Vadodara–Virar section is nearing readiness, raising expectations that the expressway may become operational soon.
