AMC plans storm water pumping system at new Om Nagar underpass to prevent monsoon flooding
January 23, 2026
Ahmedabad: As part of efforts to make the city free from railway level crossings, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated work related to the construction of a new underpass at Railway Level Crossing–3 (Om Nagar) on the Ahmedabad–Himmatnagar railway line in the eastern part of the city.
Under this project, tenders were invited for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of electro-mechanical machinery for a storm water pumping station at the underpass being constructed by the Railways. The scope of work also includes operation of electro-mechanical accessories for five years, along with comprehensive maintenance and security.
According to an AMC press note, the estimated cost of the project prepared by the consultant M. Multimedia Consultant Pvt. Ltd. stands at Rs 3,20,31,648 plus GST. Following the tender process, M/s Neema Enterprises emerged as the lowest (L-1) bidder, quoting Rs 2,62,08,294.39 plus GST, which is 18.18 per cent lower than the estimated cost.
The proposed work aims to address the recurring issue of waterlogging at the Om Nagar underpass during the monsoon season. Heavy rainfall in the surrounding areas often leads to flooding of the underpass, disrupting vehicular movement, affecting public transport services, and forcing commuters to take longer alternative routes.
To ensure that traffic movement continues for the maximum possible time even during heavy rains and to minimise inconvenience to citizens, the civic body has planned a dedicated storm water pumping system. The system will enable rapid drainage of accumulated rainwater from the underpass during monsoon conditions.
With the completion of this project, residents of the Asarwa and surrounding eastern areas are expected to benefit significantly, as the underpass will remain operational for longer durations during the rainy season.
For execution of the project, M/s Neema Enterprises, which has been found technically qualified and has submitted the lowest financial bid, has been selected. The proposal has now been submitted to the Water Supply and Sewerage Committee of the AMC for approval.
