AMC releases list of 100 Dog Feeding Points for stray dogs in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced a list of 100 official dog feeding spots to ensure organised and designated places for feeding stray dogs across the city. The initiative aims to reduce inconvenience to the public while allowing citizens to feed animals only at approved locations.

According to the AMC, specific feeding points have been identified zone-wise so that residents can feed stray dogs at designated places instead of on roads or in crowded public areas.

Zone-wise details of dog feeding spots

Central Zone: A total of 12 locations have been identified, including areas near the Sarangpur Water Tank, Geeta Mandir ST Bus Station, and in front of the old Police Commissioner’s Office in Shahibaug.

East Zone: The highest number of feeding points, 18, have been allocated in this zone. These include drainage pumping stations and crematorium areas in localities such as Rakhial, Odhav, Viratnagar, Gomtipur and Vastral.

North Zone: A total of 13 spots have been selected, mainly near drainage pumping stations in Sardarnagar, Kubernagar and Meghaninagar.

North West Zone: 14 locations have been declared, including areas near Gota Lake, Sola High Court and ISKCON Char Rasta.

As per the full list attached below, most of these feeding spots are located near drainage pumping stations, crematoriums, temple premises, and municipal gardens, ensuring that the general public is not inconvenienced and feeding remains regulated.

It is also noteworthy that the civic body has had legal provisions to act against the feeding of animals in non-designated spots for more than ten years.

As per the AMC’s Public Health Bylaws, 2012, the corporation can impose penalties for different kinds of public nuisance and littering. Under Section 50.1(7), feeding birds or animals in public spaces is not permitted. Those who breach this rule can be fined up to Rs 100, in addition to administrative charges. DeshGujarat
