Sabarmati Riverfront’s Riverdrive East Road stretch below Subhash Bridge reopens for traffic
January 26, 2026
Ahmedabad: In a big relief to commuters, travel on the Eastern Riverdrive road at Sabarmati Riverfront can be accessed seamlessly now as the stretch of Riverfront under Subhash Bridge is reopened for traffic.
Eastern Riverdrive Road on Sabarmati Riverfront, passing under the Subhash Bridge, was shut with effect from December 4 last year for traffic due to the detection of the weak status of the 52-year-old Subhash Bridge.
A diversion from Riverdrive East was given towards the Police Commissioner office road in the Shahibaug area. The rest of the Riverdrive road continued to remain open for traffic.
However recently, the AMC has shut the Shahibaug underbridge for the bullet train project works above it. This has further complicated the traffic issue on the Shahibaug side, as Subhash Bridge is also shut for repair and reconstruction.
In view of this, the portion of Subhas Bridge above Riverdrive East was inspected thoroughly, and the stretch below is reopened for traffic. With this, an end-to-end journey on Sabarmati Riverdrive East is now possible, without any diversion. However, Subhas Bridge itself continues to remain shut for repair and reconstruction, which may take a longer time. DeshGujarat
