Gujarat HC pulls up Chotila mamlatdar for demolishing gaushala
February 04, 2026
Surendranagar: During the hearing regarding the demolition of a gaushala and dharamshala in Chotila, the Gujarat High Court came down heavily on officials and warned the local mamlatdar of departmental action and possible suspension for bypassing legal procedure.
The petitioner, Dashnam Goswami Samaj Seva Trust, which has managed the facility near the Navagraha Temple for nearly 80 years, alleged that the administration carried out the demolition on January 12 without serving prior notice, leaving cattle without shelter during a cold wave.
The court took serious note of video evidence showing the demolition continuing minutes after the government assured status quo in court during the January 15 proceedings. It also questioned discrepancies in official records, as a notice claimed to have been issued in November 2025 was delivered only on January 17, 2026. Calling the process suspicious and lacking due process, the bench issued a stern warning to the officials involved. DeshGujarat
