GMB initiates DPR process for Mahuva port development

Bhavnagar: The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) has accelerated the preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) following the announcement of a proposed port at Mahuva in Bhavnagar district.

As part of its strategic vision, the state has proposed port development at Dahej and Mahuva to strengthen maritime infrastructure, enhance cargo-handling capacity, and improve coastal logistics efficiency.

The Mahuva port project is expected to significantly boost cargo-handling capabilities, upgrade navigational infrastructure, and ensure long-term operational efficiency. Strategically located, Mahuva can effectively support agro-industrial activities and regional trade, offering strong potential for capacity expansion and modernization.

To advance this vision, GMB has initiated the process of appointing a specialised consultant to prepare DPRs for both Dahej and Mahuva ports.

The DPRs will provide a comprehensive roadmap covering technical, financial, environmental, and operational aspects. Once finalised, they will form the foundation for developing modern, efficient, safe, and sustainable maritime infrastructure at both locations.

These initiatives are expected to align with national maritime priorities and global industry standards, further strengthening Gujarat’s leadership in India’s port-led development.

With a 2,340-km coastline, robust port infrastructure, and well-established industrial clusters, Gujarat also holds a natural advantage in promoting large-scale shipbuilding and the broader marine ecosystem. DeshGujarat
