AMC to set up Amdavad Eye at Sabarmati Riverfront
February 10, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), in its ₹18,518-crore budget for 2026–27 presented today, has proposed a new attraction for residents. The civic body plans to construct the “Amdavad Eye” on the Sabarmati Riverfront.
Key details of the project are as follows:
-
Inspiration: The attraction is envisioned on the lines of internationally renowned observation wheels such as the Singapore Flyer and the London Eye on the banks of the River Thames.
-
Objective: The “Amdavad Eye” aims to expand entertainment, recreation, and leisure amenities for residents while strengthening the city’s tourism appeal.
-
Location: The structure is proposed on the Sabarmati Riverfront, complementing existing landmarks including Kankaria Lakefront, Atal Bridge, Vastrapur Lake, heritage precincts, and several modern public gardens developed across the city.
-
Budget provision: The civic budget earmarks ₹10 crore for the project.
To further attract tourists visiting the Sabarmati Riverfront, a Glow Garden decorated with colourful LED lights has been created on the west side of the riverfront. A total of 54 types of lighting elements have been installed, including tiger, lion, giraffe, zebra, polar bear, horse, elephant, deer, rabbit, flamingo, butterfly, selfie points, cartoon characters, lighting balls, illuminated pathways, and lighting table-chair setups.
Given the popularity of the existing Glow Garden among city residents, an additional ₹20 crore has been allocated in the budget to develop another Glow Garden in the eastern and western areas of the city.
The proposals form part of AMC’s broader development push in the 2026–27 budget, which allocates over ₹11,082 crore for development works and emphasises infrastructure, urban mobility, environmental initiatives, and public amenities. DeshGujarat
