Ahmedabad civic body seals over 20 illegal PG accommodations in Bodakdev

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified its drive against paying guest (PG) accommodations operating illegally or in violation of prescribed regulations across the city. As part of the crackdown, AMC officials sealed around 25 PG units in Premchand Nagar Society in the Bodakdev ward, one of the city’s posh localities.

These PG units were being run commercially within residential societies. The administration had earlier issued notices to the operators for failing to comply with regulations, not submitting the required permissions or documents, and not responding within the stipulated time frame. After receiving no satisfactory response despite repeated instructions, the Bodakdev ward team carried out the sealing operation on Thursday in the presence of police personnel.

An AMC official said that most recent complaints received by the civic body were related to unauthorised PG accommodations. Repeated complaints had been made by society chairpersons and secretaries, alleging that PGs were being operated without any permission. “We have received around 40–50 complaints. Action has been taken against nearly 20 such units so far. At present, the premises have been sealed. The operators have been instructed to obtain the necessary permissions and comply with the prescribed PG regulations before resuming operations,” the official stated.

The simultaneous sealing of 25 PG units has triggered unrest among those associated with the business. PG operators have expressed displeasure over the action, stating that the sudden move could create difficulties for students and working professionals residing in these accommodations. DeshGujarat
