Gujarat Govt to set up Special Purpose Vehicle for Shipbuilding
February 21, 2026
Kushagra Tiwari, Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat has earmarked ₹50 crore as a token provision for setting up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for shipbuilding as part of its budget allocation for the Ports and Transport Department for the financial year 2026–27.
₹50 Crore SPV for Shipbuilding
In a significant push to the maritime sector, the state government has proposed the establishment of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) dedicated to shipbuilding, with an allocation of ₹50 crore. The proposed SPV is expected to facilitate structured investment, streamline project execution, and enhance coordination between government agencies and private stakeholders within the shipbuilding ecosystem.
The move aligns with Gujarat’s long-standing focus on port-led industrialisation and maritime development. The SPV is likely to play a catalytic role in expanding shipbuilding capacity, attracting private investment, and generating employment in coastal regions.
Additionally, the government has allocated ₹10 crore under the Shipbuilding Policy to provide incentives and promote growth in the local shipbuilding industry. DeshGujarat
