Passengers Caught with Gold Paste Capsules Ingested at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad: Two passengers arriving from Abu Dhabi were intercepted late Wednesday night at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) after officials grew suspicious of their conduct. Subsequent checks revealed that they had ingested capsules containing gold paste.

The two individuals had arrived on an Air Arabia flight from Abu Dhabi. Noticing their unusual behaviour, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Airport Customs stopped them for detailed questioning.

While routine baggage checks did not yield any incriminating material, further examination using a body scanner indicated the presence of foreign objects in their stomachs. During sustained interrogation, the passengers admitted to having swallowed capsules filled with gold paste, officials said.

Preliminary disclosures suggest that the duo collectively ingested around 250 grams of gold paste. One passenger is believed to have swallowed capsules containing approximately 150 grams, while the other admitted to ingesting nearly 90 grams.

Customs authorities have detained both individuals and initiated medical procedures for the safe retrieval of the capsules. A detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact quantity and purity of the recovered gold paste. DeshGujarat
