AMC Crackdown on Illegal PGs Continues; Over 30 Units Sealed on Science City Road
February 24, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) continued its crackdown on illegal paying guest (PG) accommodations across the city. In its latest action, the Estate Department sealed 32 PG units operating without permission on Science City Road.
According to information received, several houses allotted to economically weaker and middle-income beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) were allegedly being misused. Instead of being occupied by the original allottees, some units were reportedly converted into PG accommodations in violation of scheme norms.
Following complaints that these government-allotted houses were being commercially rented out, the AMC’s Estate Department initiated a detailed investigation.
As part of the inspection drive, AMC officials also conducted checks at Shivalya Heights near the canal on Science City Road. During verification, residents were asked to furnish ownership documents to confirm whether they were original allottees or unauthorized tenants.
In a related action, two additional illegal PG units were identified and sealed in the Sola area.
Estate Department officials clarified that the drive is part of an ongoing enforcement campaign. Authorities have warned that if any house is found operating as a PG or being rented out in violation of rules, strict legal action including issuance of notices and sealing of premises will follow.
