AMC demolishes illegal shops, reclaims over 7000 sq ft of reserved plot land

Ahmedabad: The Estate and Urban Development Department of the South West Zone of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) carried out a demolition drive in the Makarba area on Tuesday and cleared illegal constructions standing on land reserved for open space under a town planning scheme.

According to an official AMC press note, notices had been issued to the concerned occupants under the provisions of the Gujarat Town Planning and Urban Development Act, 1976, for encroachments on Reserve Final Plot No. 104, which is designated for open space in TP Scheme No. 84/A (Makarba) near Simandhar Society in the Makarba area.

As the occupants failed to remove the constructions and hand over possession of the land, the civic body initiated enforcement action. On March 9, the materials and goods kept inside the premises were cleared, following which a demolition operation was conducted on March 10.

During the drive, AMC teams, with the help of two anti-encroachment vehicles, two JCB machines, two breakers, one gas cutter, and 12 labourers from a private contractor, removed a total of 13 commercial-type structures built on the reserved plot.

The civic body stated that possession of the reservation plot measuring 7,597 square feet has been taken after clearing the encroachments, and the land will be maintained for its designated purpose of open space under the town planning scheme. DeshGujarat
