Call to Extend Disturbed Areas Act to Gota, Jagatpur, Vandemataram Road; 100 Societies Join Campaign
March 10, 2026
Ahmedabad: More than 100 housing societies located in Gota, Jagatpur, Vande Mataram Road and Godrej Garden City areas have reportedly launched a campaign demanding implementation of the Disturbed Areas Act in their localities. As part of the campaign, office-bearers of the societies are sending written representations to the Ahmedabad Collector seeking enforcement of the Act in their respective areas.
The societies also plan to submit representations to the local MLA, MP and municipal corporators.
Residents associated with the campaign have demanded immediate enforcement of the Disturbed Areas Act in the area, stating that property transactions should be regulated under the law. They said the Act is currently applicable in Sarkhej, Juhapura, Vejalpur and parts of the old city, and similar provisions should be extended to their localities. The campaign reportedly began with societies located on Vande Mataram Road and later gained support from several others.
Some of the societies that have joined the campaign include Tirupati Aakriti Greens, Aakriti Elegance, Shayona Tilak-4 Society, Silver Harmony Society, Malabar County-2, Vrindavan Heights, ICB Society, Tulsi Bungalows, Shayona Green Society, Aristo Crest Society, and several societies from the Vandemataram Hills area, among others.
Members of the association claimed that residents of several societies have reported incidents of disputes and alleged harassment related to property transactions. They said some families have vacated houses in certain societies following such disputes.
Residents also referred to a recent dispute in a society on Vande Mataram Road, where a property sale allegedly led to tension between the society committee and a family that had purchased a house. The matter eventually reached the police, following which local residents held a protest in the area.
It is notable that once an area is notified under the Disturbed Areas Act, the sale or rental of property requires prior permission from the competent authority under the law. DeshGujarat
