Railways Earn Big from Ahmedabad T20 Final Rush, Plan Special Trains for Future ICC Finals

Ahmedabad: Western Railway plans to run special trains for final matches of major ICC tournaments whenever the matches are held in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, or Delhi, following the strong response received during the past two events. This time, five World Cup special trains were operated for the T20 World Cup final, bringing thousands of cricket fans to Ahmedabad.

To facilitate spectators travelling for the final match, special trains were run from Mumbai and Pune. According to railway officials, a total of 5,318 passengers travelled to Ahmedabad on these special services, generating nearly ₹70 lakh in revenue within two days.

Five special trains operated from Mumbai and Pune

For the World Cup final, two special trains were run from Mumbai Central, one from Bandra Terminus, one from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), and one from Pune.

Western Railway earned ₹52.74 lakh from three special trains, while Central Railway earned about ₹16.78 lakh from two special trains. In total, the Railways recorded revenue of ₹69,52,259 from these services.

Trains operated on March 7 and 8

The special trains were operated on March 7 and March 8 for the final match. Around 700 passengers from Surat also booked tickets on these trains. Western Railway operated two trains from Mumbai Central and one from Bandra Terminus, while Central Railway operated one train each from CSMT and Pune via Surat.

On the day of the final, a special train from Mumbai Central alone brought 1,454 passengers to Ahmedabad to watch the match.

Railway officials said that due to increasing demand during major ICC events, the plan is to operate similar special trains for future finals held in major cities. DeshGujarat
