March 14, 2026
Surat: A four-year-old boy was injured after being attacked by a stray dog in the Bhestan area of the city, raising fresh concerns over the rising menace of stray dogs despite the Surat Municipal Corporation spending crores of rupees every year on animal control measures.
The incident occurred in the Ganeshnagar locality of Bhestan on Thursday when the boy, Ansh, son of labourer Kamal Kushwaha, was playing near his house. During this time, a stray dog attacked him and bit him on the face, causing a serious injury to his cheek.
Hearing the child’s screams, nearby residents rushed to the spot and rescued him from the dog. The injured child was immediately taken to Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance, where he was given treatment.
The incident has once again raised questions over the effectiveness of the civic body’s efforts to control the stray dog population in the city. DeshGujarat
