Gujarat ATS Busts Illegal Laboratory Making Mephedrone Drug in UP; 2 Nabbed

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has busted a clandestine laboratory making narcotic substances and seized significant quantities of banned drugs in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, a press release said.
As per the press release, on March 1, 2026, ATS recovered 4.6 grams of mephedrone from an accused in the Danilimda area of Ahmedabad. Three accused Shafaat Ahmed alias Chand Mohammad Istiyak Farooqui, Sohil alias Bhura Munirbhai Mirza (25), and Farhan alias Bhura Faizullakhan Pathan (38) were arrested in connection with the case. An offence was registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
During interrogation, ATS officials learned that the contraband had been sourced from Uttar Pradesh. Acting on the inputs, a special ATS team conducted a 12-day surveillance operation in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
Subsequently, in a joint operation with Uttar Pradesh Police, ATS raided a poultry farm in Ramnagar Karai village, where a running illegal mephedrone manufacturing unit was uncovered.
During the raid, ATS seized 6 kg of mephedrone, 50 kg of liquid mephedrone, and 88 kg of 2-bromo-4-methyl propiophenone, recently notified as a controlled substance under the NDPS Act from March 11, 2026, along with around 200 kg of raw materials and chemicals.
Two accused Kapildev Chedilal Sharma (31) and Ramshankar alias Pankaj Parshuram (30), both residents of Churvanpur in Beni Gadopur, Uttar Pradesh were detained from the site, and legal action has been initiated.
Officials said further investigation is underway to trace the wider drug network and supply chain. DeshGujarat
