Hoax Bomb Threat to Gujarat Assembly Delays Proceedings

Gandhinagar: Proceedings of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly were delayed today after a ‘hoax’ bomb threat email allegedly from Khalistani groups was received on the official mail ID of the Assembly, triggering a security alert at the Secretariat complex. Police, bomb disposal squad and dog squad teams rushed to the spot and carried out an intensive search of the premises.

All MLAs, ministers and staff were evacuated from the House as a precaution, and entry into the Assembly and Secretariat was restricted while checking was underway. Officials said the House, which was scheduled to begin at 9 am, started at 10 am after no suspicious object was found during the search.

According to police, the threat was sent through an email in English via Gmail, warning of a blast at the Assembly. SP Ravi Teja Vasamshetty said the cyber team has begun tracing the source of the email and a case will be registered after preliminary investigation. Security has been tightened across the Assembly complex.

As per reports, similar threat emails were also received by some schools in Ahmedabad, including institutions in Memnagar and Ghatlodia areas, prompting separate security checks there as well. Furthermore, the mail reportedly stated that a bomb blast would also take place at an LPG tanker at Mundra port.

The incident occurred during the ongoing Budget Session of the Gujarat Assembly, which began on February 16 and will continue till March 25. Officials said the situation is under control and Assembly proceedings resumed after the security clearance. DeshGujarat
