Surat: A shocking case of robbery has surfaced in Surat, where a woman allegedly befriended a businessman through the Tinder app, drugged him, and fled with gold jewellery worth ₹8.95 lakh.
The victim, a reputed land and stock broker from Shahpore, came in contact with a woman identified as Sarika Gupta on Tinder. She introduced herself as a betel nut trader and expressed interest in meeting him for business discussions.
The woman invited him to the Four Seasons Hotel in the Pal area, where she had booked a room. Upon arrival, she offered him lunch, claiming that other traders would be joining later.
During the meeting, she asked the businessman to step into the bathroom under the pretext of attending a family video call. Taking advantage of the moment, she allegedly laced the food with an intoxicating substance.
After consuming the food, the businessman fell unconscious. The accused then stole a gold chain and two rings worth ₹8.95 lakh and checked out of the hotel overnight.
The victim regained consciousness nearly 14 hours later and discovered the robbery. Attempts to contact the woman failed as her phone was switched off.
Following the incident, the businessman lodged a complaint at Pal police station. Police have registered a case of cheating and robbery and launched an investigation into the high-profile crime. DeshGujarat
