Mehsana Court Orders Seizure of Govt Office Assets Over Unpaid Land Compensation
April 05, 2026
Mehsana: In a rare and dramatic legal intervention, the Kadi Court in Mehsana has ordered the seizure of assets from a government land acquisition office after the state failed to compensate farmers for land taken for the Narmada Project.
The court issued a formal warrant for the confiscation of property belonging to the Land Acquisition Office. This decision was prompted by the government’s continued delay in providing promised financial redress to farmers whose livelihoods were impacted by the massive irrigation and power scheme.
Accompanied by a court bailiff, the affected farmers arrived at the government facility to carry out the order. Various items of office furniture and equipment were seized as part of an effort to recover outstanding payments totaling 430,000 rupees. DeshGujarat
