Kheda BJP Leader Vipul Patel’s ‘Made a Lot of Money in Politics’ Remark Sparks Row

Nadiad: A statement by BJP’s former Kheda district president, Vipul Patel, has sparked a political row after he publicly claimed he had earned “a lot of money” during his time in politics.

The incident took place during the silver jubilee celebrations of the Nadiad Area Colleges Retired Staff Association, where Patel was present as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering and reflecting on his journey, Patel said, “I worked very hard in my studies, built a good business, and established a respectable livelihood. I earned a lot of money. I am not like other leaders who deny making money, I openly say, with pride, that I have earned money. I have made money in politics. You won’t find another leader like this in Nadiad or Kheda district, because those who earn usually keep it to themselves…”

The remark, made at a public function in Nadiad, quickly went viral on social media and became a focal point of public and political debate. Patel has been associated with the ruling BJP in Kheda district for several years and has held key organisational roles, including district president and general secretary.

Apart from politics, he is also active in the cooperative sector. He has previously served as chairman of Amul and currently holds a position as a director in the dairy body.

The statement has drawn mixed reactions from the public. While some view it as an example of Patel’s candid and outspoken nature, political observers have termed the remark unusual and significant.

The controversy has also reignited concerns over ethics and transparency in public life. Critics argue that openly acknowledging financial gains in politics undermines the dignity of public office and democratic values.

The issue has now extended beyond Kheda district, gaining traction at the regional level. Attention is now focused on how the party will respond to the controversy. DeshGujarat
