Late-Night Protest Over Disturbed Areas Act ‘Violation’ in Vadodara; Locals Camp at Ex-Corporator’s House

Vadodara: Local residents staged a late-night protest on Thursday, alleging violations of the Disturbed Areas Act (Ashant Dhara) in the Padra Road area. A large number of residents gathered and surrounded the house of former corporator Narveersinh Chudasama, chanting Ramdhun outside the premises.
The protest centres around Plot No. 209 on Padra Road. Residents allege that despite the Disturbed Areas Act being in force in the area, certain transactions related to the plot have been carried out in violation of the law.
According to locals, the plot—located opposite Akshar Arya and adjacent to a residential society—has reportedly been sold by a relative of the former corporator. They have raised objections regarding the nature of the agreement linked to the property.
Protesters claimed that they have submitted representations to multiple authorities, including the Prant Officer and the Collector’s office, but no action has been taken so far.
A local resident said, “Despite the law being in force, we have not received any response regarding Plot No. 209. We have approached authorities at various levels. Our demand is that the agreement for this plot be reviewed and appropriate action be taken.”
Residents warned that if the issue remains unresolved, they may boycott voting in the upcoming municipal corporation elections.
Vipul Padhiyar, one of the residents, said, “The locals have been raising this issue for the past week. Today, they gathered outside Narveersinh Chudasama’s residence, but no response was received. The protestors are now dispersing and heading towards the J.P. Police post. The issue concerns the sale of the plot by his brother, located next to the residents’ society. It is alleged that six Muslim partners have been included in the deal, which the locals strongly oppose. If the matter is not resolved, it could have repercussions in the upcoming municipal elections.”
Following the late-night protest, a group of residents also moved towards the J.P. Police post. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
