Nearly 36 inch rainfall in 24 hours in Valsad district | Very heavy rains across Southern Gujarat

Gandhinagar: There has been unprecedented nearly 36 inches of rainfall recorded in Umargam in Valsad district of South Gujarat in 24 hours ending 6 am today. The district had too high rainfall with whopping figures of nearly 29 inch rain in Kaprada taluka, 25.31 in Nanapondha, nearly 20 inches in Dharampur, nearl7 18 in Pardi and 17 in Vansda in addition to 16.26 inches in Vapi and nearly 16 inches in Valsad town. Other districts in South Gujarat namely Tapi, Dangs, Navsari, Surat had also very heavy rainfall in this period. Parts of Narmada, Mahisagar, Bharuch had also moderate to heavy to very heavy rains.
The State government has dispatched Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, Tribal Development Minister Naresh Patel, Secretaries Remya Mohan and Alok Pandey to the affected districts to assist the administration in the wake of heavy rains in Surat, Valsad and Navsari districts of the state. Guardian secretaries are also moved to districts where Red Alert warning has been issued by the weather department based on its forecast.
Amid continuous heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions in Valsad district, the district administration has ordered all factories and industrial units to remain closed on July 23.
Factory operators have been directed to ensure the safe return of workers to their homes. Only minimum staff required for essential services may remain on duty with necessary safety measures.
Industries have also been instructed to secure hazardous chemicals, machinery, electrical systems and other critical equipment. The order has come into immediate effect in the interest of public and worker safety.
Heavy rainfall has forced the closure of 47 roads under the Road and Building Department (Panchayat) in Dang district, disrupting vehicular traffic.
According to the latest road status released at 8 am on July 23, all 47 roads remain closed due to adverse weather conditions.
