Ahmedabad to Get ₹364-Crore Four-Lane ROB-Cum-Elevated Corridor

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has started preparations to upgrade the city’s infrastructure ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with a major four-lane bridge-cum-elevated corridor planned on the S.G. Highway. The civic body has floated a tender worth ₹364.44 crore for the construction of a four-lane Railway Over Bridge (ROB)-cum-elevated corridor connecting Sarkhej Circle with the New Ring Road.

The project is aimed at easing traffic congestion and eliminating the need for vehicles to wait at the railway level crossing on the Ahmedabad-Botad railway line. The proposed structure will be around 1.55 km long and will be built along the 60-metre-wide TP Road. It will pass over the Sanand-Sarkhej Road and the Ahmedabad-Botad railway line, allowing traffic to move continuously without being held up at the railway crossing.

According to the tender documents, the project will replace Level Crossing (LC) No. 28 and include a four-lane ROB and elevated corridor to improve connectivity around L.J. Circle and Sanand Junction on the S.G. Highway.

The project has been estimated at ₹3,64,44,26,857, excluding GST. The tender has been floated on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis, with the selected contractor expected to complete the work within 39 months. The initial three months will be used for mobilisation, utility identification and shifting, pile-load testing and other preparatory work.

A key feature of the project will be a 150-metre tied bow-string-type steel superstructure over the S.G. Highway. The railway portion will have a 52.08-metre camel-back-type steel superstructure.

The technical bids for the project are scheduled to be opened on September 24 at 4 pm. The deadline for online tender submission is September 21, while physical submission of technical bids will be allowed until September 23.

AMC has also included several technology-based monitoring measures in the project. These include a BIM-integrated digital construction management system for real-time progress tracking, CCTV cameras at 50-metre intervals and a permanent structural health monitoring system for the major steel span.

The contractor will also have to implement a traffic management plan and deploy traffic marshals and safety engineers throughout the construction period to minimise disruption to road users.

The project is expected to play an important role in improving traffic movement along one of Ahmedabad’s busiest corridors. AMC has set a target of completing the work before the 2030 Commonwealth Games, when the city is expected to host major sporting events and welcome visitors from across the world.

The tender also provides for a 10-year defect liability period, during which the contractor will remain responsible for structural defects and necessary rectification work. DeshGujarat
