Gandhinagar: It has been observed that one Dalit, one Adivasi, one Kshatriya, one Leuva Patel, one Kadva Patel, one woman, one OBC, one or two others purely on merit are generally inducted to cabinet rank in BJP governments in Gujarat.

New cabinet that took oath today has by-and-large followed this practice barring one major exception of no woman in cabinet rank.

Atmaram Parmar has been placed as Dalit face of cabinet replacing Ramanlal Vora. Atmaram resigned from the post of Deputy Speaker of Gujarat Assembly today morning before his induction as minister.

Similarly Ganpat Vasava has been placed as Adivasi or tribal face of cabinet replacing Mangubhai Patel who has not found place in Rupani cabinet. Vasava was minister in Anandiben Patel government was later shifted to the post of assembly Speaker. Now he is back in the government.

Chudasama continues to be Kshatriya face of cabinet. Dilip Thakor has been elevated to cabinet rank as Other Backward Class/Thakor face. He was Minister of State earlier.

Bokhiria was once the only face from Saurshtra in state cabinet rank. Not anymore. He represents coastal belt.

Chimanbhai Saparia and Jayesh Radadia are Kadva and Leuva Patidar faces from Saurashtra. Chimanbhai replaces Saurabh Patel which is a surprise. Jayesh has been elevated to cabinet rank. He was Minister of State on 14th rank in earlier Anandiben Patel government. As Anandiben Patel a Leuva Patidar representation in cabinet departed, Jayesh has been a choice to give representation to this section.

By the way, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is technically on paper from minority community. Shri Rahul Gandhi had happily pursued and his government in Centre had therefore  granted minority status to Jain community in the last phase of Congress-led UPA government. Rupani believes Jains are Hindus and he has said this time and again in gatherings of Jain community. However it was he only who granted minority status to Jain community in Gujarat in a public function in recent past. In this connection we can safely say that Gujarat BJP has finally given cabinet berth to minority  also, in fact they have made a Chief Minister. This on lighter side of course.
