Heavy downpour continues in parts of South Gujarat, Saurashtra, Fresh extreme rainfall warning issued

Heavy rain continued to lash parts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra on the second consecutive day today even as the state has seen over 18% of the seasonal rain so far and the vigorous monsoon is likely to cause heavy to extremely heavy downpour in various parts of the state in next five days which has prompted the met department to issue fresh rainfall warnings today.
Till 6 pm today 46 talukas of 12 districts have seen rain of which Talala in Gir Somnath district has recorded the maximum of 103 mm, Mahuva in Surat 71 Umergam in Valsad 71 Bardoli in Surat 58 Malia in Junagadh 55 and Gir Gadhda and Kodinar in Gir Somnath district 44 and 40mm respectively.
In the last 24 hours 81 talukas of 17 districts saw rainfall with maximum 196 mm in Sutrapada of Gir Somnath district, 165 mm in Kodinar of the same district, Umergam in Valsad 120mm, Rajula in Amreli 106mm.
Many rain-fed rivers in Saurashtra and South Gujarat have surged due to continuing rainfall.
Two atmospheric systems; one upper air cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat region and neighborhood extending from 0.9 km to 3.6 km above mean sea level and the other east west shear zone roughly along 20° North Latitude between 3.1 and 4.5 km above mean sea level persists.
Meanwhile, the met department has issued heavy rainfall warning for five days and has also advised the fishermen to not to venture in to sea along Gujarat coast.
The met warning and special weather forecast bulletin today said, ‘In association with the active monsoon condition, Gujarat State is very likely to experience a wet spell during next 5 days.
Day1:
Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Gujarat region and Saurashtra namely Valsad, Navsari, Dang, Tapi, Surat, Narmada, Bharuch, Vadodara, Dahod, Panchmahal, Daman, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dadra Nagar Haveli with isolated extremely heavy falls in Chhotaudepur, Gir Somnath district and in Diu.
Day 2:
Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Gujarat region namely Banaskantha, Mehsana, Aravalli, Mehsana,Valsad, Navsari, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli with isolated extremely heavy falls very likely in Dahod, Mahisagar, Aravalli, Sabarkantha; heavy to very heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra namely Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka.
Day 3:
Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Valsad, Navsari, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli; Heavy rains very likely in the districts of North Gujarat region namely Sabarkantha, Aravalli and in the districts of Saurashtra namely Gir Somnath, and in Diu.
DAY 4:
Heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Gujarat region namely Banaskantha, Valsad, Navsari, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli; Saurashtra namely Gir Somnath and Diu.
DAY 5:
Heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely ,Valsad, Navsari, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli. Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Gir Somnath, Diu, Junagadh and Kutch.
