Environment hearing for setting up commercial airport at Mundra

Mundra: The border district Kutch may get third commercial airport if everything goes as per plan.
The airport will be developed at a cost of Rs 1400 crore by Ms Mundra International Airport Pvt Ltd. The present airstrip will be expanded to 4,000 meter length and 60 meter width. Total area under project is 522 hectare. Proposed project will start from 2021-22 under which 2.72 lakh passengers and 7,05,844 tonne cargo will be handled. The project will come up over Baroi, Goyersama, Shekhadia and Luni village land. MP SEZ Utilities Pvt Ltd will supply 10,000 kw power for the airport. The first phase will offer direct employment to 825 persons while indirect employment to 7500 persons as per a report prepared by Ms Green Sea India Consulting Pvt Ltd.
Construction activity will take twow years period. As per the 18-page EIA report, 170 of 522 hectare land required is owned by company while 167 hectare was used for salt making. Rest 185 hectare land belongs to forest department. No private land is proposed to be acquired for the project.
Environmental hearing for the project is being held today in presence of Gujarat Pollution Control Board officials.
