Amul milk pouch dearer by 1 Re from tomorrow

Anand: India’s leading milk supplier Amul on Wednesday raised milk prices by Rs 2 per litre. It will be effective from Thursday.

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under Amul brand, has decided to revise the milk prices by Rs 2 per litre being sold in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra markets across the country.

In Ahmedabad, the price of Amul Gold will be Rs 29 per 500 ml milk pouch, and Amul Taaza will be sold for Rs 23 per 500 ml. Similarly, Amul Shakti will be available for Rs. 26 per 500 ml. All other brands such as T-special, cow and buffalo milk etc would also attract Rs. 2 price hike per liter.

The price is being hiked after a gap of nearly one year and seven months, officials said. An increase in the production cost is the reason behind the price rise, the company said.

“Prices of Amul milk will be increased by ₹2 per litre across India from tomorrow. The new prices will be applicable on all Amul milk brands like Gold, Taaza, Shakti, T-special, as well on cow and buffalo milk,” said RS Sodhi, Managing Director, GCMMF, which markets Amul brand of milk and dairy products.

Sodhi said the hike in the milk price became necessary due to the rise in food inflation. “Additionally, the cost for packaging has gone up by 30 to 40 per cent, the transportation cost by 30 per cent, and the energy cost by 30 per cent, which led to the increase in the input cost,” he said.

Official note:

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), marketer of milk and milk products under the brand name of Amul, has decided to revise the milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in markets of Ahmedabad and Saurashtra of Gujarat and Delhi NCR with effective from 1st July’21. In Ahmedabad the price of Amul Gold will be Rs. 29 per 500 ml, Amul Taaza will be Rs. 23 per 500 ml, and Amul Shakti will be at Rs. 26 per 500ml. The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates into 4% increase in MRP which is much lower than average food inflation.

The price revision is being done all India, in rest of the markets where Amul is marketing its fresh milk.

It is worthwhile to note that in the last 1.5 years Amul has not made any price revision in its fresh milk category. Since then due to rise in costs of energy, packaging, logistics, overall cost of operation has increased. Considering the rise in input costs, our member unions have also increased farmers’ price in the range of Rs. 45 to Rs. 50 per Kg fat which is more than 6% over previous year.

Amul as a policy passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and & milk products to the milk producers. The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production.
