August 06, 2021
New Delhi: Lok Sabha MP from Junagadh and BJP leader Rajesh Chudasama called on union home minister Amit Shah at latter’s Delhi residence demanding sufficient actions by the Government of India for release of Indian fishermen from jails in Pakistan.
According to Chudasama there are 559 Indian fishermen lodged in different jails in Pakistan for alleged violation of international maritime boundary line. Identification process of 295 of them has been over and most of them are from Junagadh and Gir Somnath districts of Gujarat.
Chudasama appealed union home minister to ensure that these fishermen come back soon to India, as they are in jail in Pakistan for over three years.
Chudasama had also met minister of external affairs earlier over same issue. He was informed that while identification process of 295 fishermen was complete, the same process for 81 other fishermen was in progress. Once this process involving 376 fishermen is over, they will be released. Thanks to the efforts of the Centre, as many as 2100 fishermen had been released last seven years. DeshGujarat
