Police, Torrent Power team attacked by locals in Dariyapur area during anti-electricity theft drive

Ahmedabad: The local residents in dense Muslims populated area of Dariyapur in wall city Ahmedabad pelted stones on the employees of Torrent power and accompanying police staffers during raids against electricity theft. Heavy stone pelting by locals caused injuries to 4 torrent power employees and 3 police men.
Private electricity company Torrent power and police had undertaken a mega search operation in Dariyapur area to investigate illegal electricity connection and electricity theft. The police staff of over 200 including 1 DCP, 2 ACP and 1 PI and over 150 employees including 20 officials of torrent power had undertaken this raids operation.
Number of illegal electricity connections were found in the area during the raid. The local residents got agitated and pelted stones on the police and Torrent power employees near Tambu Choki in Nagina Pol to protest the anti-theft operation and prevent further raids to proceed. The police have filed a crime against the responsible people.
Local Congress MLA Gyasuddin Sheikh who rushed to the spot after the incident told media persons that it was a matter of misunderstanding. He said Dariyapur had been a sensitive area in the past and now there’s peace. He said the administration should see that peace continue to prevail here. Sheikh claimed that raiding party had broke a lock of closed house to conduct check and also entered into a house where lonely widow was living.
