SMC nod for conventional barrage project over river Tapi in Surat

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC)’s standing committee has approved the tender for conventional barrage on river Tapi between Rundh and Bhatha, at a cost of Rs 941 crore. A 10-km lake will be formed from Rundh to the causeway as part of the conventional barrage project. The lake will be able to conserve 1700 crore litres of water.

The standing committee has approved the lowest bid of Rs 941 crore by Unique construction (MoU partner- Patel engineering) for the three parts, which was approved by SMC. SMC had invited offers in 3 parts. The part ‘A’ includes hydrographic, topographic survey investigation, barrage design, approval of governmental and other departments, geonotical investigation in the bottom of Tapi, model run and so on. Part ‘B’ includes barrage construction and Part ‘C’ includes operation maintenance of the barrage for 10 years.

The draft of the tender was prepared by SVNIT, Surat. SMC had then sent the draft to Wapcos limited, Gandhinagar and Kasad consultant, Ahmedabad for review.

If the project is not found feasible after a study survey report in Part A, then the contract will be cancelled. Around 11,974 square metre land of Rundh and 14,363 square metre land of Bhatha village will be used for the project.
