SIT files chargesheet against Teesta, Bhatt and Sreekumar in 2002 Gujarat riots case

Gandhinagar: The SIT on Tuesday filed the charge sheet against NGO operator Teesta Setalvad, former sacked IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt and retired DGP R B Sreekumar in a case related to the fabrication of the evidences in 2002 Gujarat riots.

Deepan Bhadran, Deputy Inspector General of Police, who heads the SIT and ATS, confirmed to the media that they filed the charge sheet against the three in an Ahmedabad court on 21st Sept.

The SIT has charged the three accused with sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 468 (forgery), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 194 (giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure conviction of capital offence, 211 (false charge of offence made with intent to injure) and 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture) of the IPC.

The SIT had arrested Teesta and Sreekumar on June 25. Seetalvad got out on bail on September 2 while Sreekumar’s bail petition is to be heard on September 28 by the Gujarat High Court. Sanjiv Bhatt, however, is logged in Palanpur jail after getting convicted in a custodial death case.
